Other Miniature Ball Materials
AISI 420 Stainless Steel
AISI 420 stainless steel exhibits properties similar to 440C. It offers good corrosion resistance and high hardness (RC 52-60) at a lower cost than 440C. 420 balls are currently available in AFMBA grades 24 - 48 - 100 - 200 - 500.
AISI 316L Stainless Steel
AISI 316L stainless steel is a low carbon austenitic, with general corrosion resistance similar to type 316, but with higher resistance to inter-granular corrosion after welding or stress relieving. Rockwell hardness is typically RC 25 - 39. AISI 316L balls are available in AFBMA grades 100 - 200 - 500.
AISI 304 Stainless Steel
AISI 304 stainless steel balls exhibit properties similar to AISI 302 stainless but with lower Carbon content and higher Chromium content. AISI 304 is soft steel with a typical Rockwell of RC 25 -39. AISI 304 balls are available in AFBMA grades 100 - 200 - 500.
Aluminum balls are available in type 2017-T4. This material is primarily used in lightweight applications or as a sealing ball. Aluminum balls are currently available in AFMBA grades 100 - 200 - 500 - 1000.
Ceramic balls are available in aluminum oxide and silicon nitride or to customer specifications. These materials perform very well in elevated temperatures (up to 1800°F - 982°C) and in harsh environments. The combination of hardness and light weight make this material an excellent choice for high performance applications. Ceramic balls are currently available in AFBMA grades 10 - 24- 48 - 100- 200.
Copper balls are available in 99.9% pure O.F.H.C. or to customer specifications. This material exhibits excellent electrical conductivity. Copper balls are currently available in AFBMA grades 200 - 500.
Nickel balls are available in Type 200 or to customer specifications. Nickel balls are currently available in AFBMA grades 100 - 200 - 500.
Titanium is a low-density element (approximately 60% of the density of steel) that is nonmagnetic and offers good heat transfer properties. Titanium is an excellent choice for a variety of medical applications due to its general biological compatibility. The combination of high strength, stiffness, good toughness and low density make titanium an excellent choice for many aerospace applications. The excellent corrosion resistance and biocompatibility coupled with good strengths make it very useful in chemical and petrochemical applications, marine environments and biomaterials applications.
Tungsten Carbide 55A
Tungsten Carbide 55A offers high hardness, very good wear and impact resistance. 55A chemical properties are 87% Tungsten Carbide and 13% cobalt by weight. 55A is available in sizes from .020" - .157" in grades 10 - 24 - 48 - 100 - 200.
